Y4K is a community of God’s people who delight to worship him and are passionate about the Gospel, seeking to fulfill the mission of the Lord Jesus Christ in the world.
More specifically, Y4K is an international mission organization with several active missionaries serving in 3 countries. Y4K members serve God among many diverse people groups in Africa, Romania, and Mexico.
What do the letters Y4K stand for?
Y4K was begun in 2000 as Youth 4 The Kingdom. We have used the trade name “Youth 4 The Kingdom,” but the
official name of the organization remains simply Y4K.
What has God accomplished thus far through Y4K?
God’s main work is invisible, within human hearts. Y4K has been involved in:
* planting churches, serving hundreds of believers and seekers
* distributing hundreds of books for Christian workers around the world
* encouraging and facilitating new mission leaders in former mission fields
What kinds of work do Y4K missionaries do?
Y4K is a general mission. Many of our missionaries work as worship leaders, evangelists, teachers, activity planners, street evangelists in pioneer areas or in partnership
with local churches in discipleship, evangelism, or in teaching of the Word of God.
How are Y4K’s missionaries supported?
Y4K is a faith-based mission. This means missionaries receive prayer and financial support from churches, friends, and others who believe in their ministry.
Those who serve with Y4K are committed to the essential truths of biblical Christianity. See our statement of faith.
Have I got what it takes to be a missionary?
First and foremost, being a missionary is based on your calling from God. We believe that the Spirit of God is the One who calls and empowers missionaries to be “witnesses into all the earth”. Also, being a missionary requires physical stamina, emotional resilience and a faithful character. See a list of questions we’ll ask as you consider missionary service.
How does Y4K relate to other organizations?
Y4K relates to other organizations as described below:
Evangelical Bodies
The policy of the Mission is to maintain fellowship with other groups of like evangelical position, while maintaining our ability to function independently when necessary. The Mission seeks to preserve its interdenominational character in view of its responsibility to the evangelical community of which it is a part. The Mission recognizes each Christian member’s liberty to hold varying views within the Statement of Faith.
Non-evangelical Bodies
It may be necessary to relate to other groups (e.g. government or professional bodies) regarding common concerns. In no case does this involve organic union or mutual interdependence with non-evangelical bodies such as the World Council of Churches or its affiliates.
Sponsorship by Other Organizations
When entering a new country of service under the sponsorship of another organization, Y4K will seek to cooperate with that organization in every way, but will maintain the Mission’s autonomy and responsibility for its program.
Local Churches
Y4K recognizes that church groups arising from its ministry are not the Mission’s but Christ’s. From the beginning, the Mission seeks to emphasize that a local church comes under the authority of Christ and not of a mission organization, and that the church, with the Lord’s enabling, should be self-reliant and not dependent on resources from other organizations.
Want to be a missionary?
Y4K is a general mission. Many of our missionaries work as worship leaders, evangelists, teachers, activity planners, street evangelists in pioneer areas or in partnership
with local churches in discipleship, evangelism, or in teaching of the Word of God.
Why are you considering missions?
Missions is more than a job; it’s a ministry which can be very demanding. Loneliness, cultural differences, financial limitations, and other frustrations may come your way. You need to have a strong conviction that God is leading you into missions. Your love for God and your desire to glorify Him, no matter what, must be top priority.
Crossing the ocean will not make you a missionary. Whatever you propose to do in ministry across cultural lines you should already be doing now. Are you committed and involved in your local church? Have you talked to your church leaders about your interest in mission? Because the church does the sending, they should be involved in discipling, training, and equipping you.
Does the way you live demonstrate an attitude of self-discipline, teachability, servant spirit, flexibility, accountability, initiative, perseverance, sense of humor?
How has God gifted you for service?
There are mature skill sets that will be required, depending on the type of ministry and length of term. Some countries require a degree for entry. What specific skills do you have to offer for cross-cultural ministry?
Are you willing to raise financial support?
People serving with Y4K are not salaried by Y4K. You will be asked to supply the financial resources that you need for living expenses, travel, medical insurance, and administration by partnering with church supporters, friends, and other people who stand behind you in your service.
The pressures of cross-cultural ministry require physical and emotional stamina and a resilient character.
Going out with a mission group means joining a team. Can you work with an international and interdenominational team? You need to be compatible with the team’s beliefs, goals, and methods. Study our statement of faith, values and purpose statements.
